Ukraine marks the 101st anniversary of the Battle of Kruty, 2019.01.29, 14:47
Today, Ukraine celebrates the 101st anniversary of the legendary battle of Kruty, which took place on January 29, 1918
An important historical event for an independent Ukraine took place near the village of Kruty, near the village of Pamyatnoe (130 kilometers northeast of Kiev).
The four-thousandth Bolshevik army of Mikhail Muravyov faced a detachment of Kiev students and volunteer Cossack fighters (about three hundred people) defending the Ukrainian People's Republic.
During the battle, which lasted several hours, the UPR fighters caused significant damage to the enemy (several hundred fighters), but many of the Ukrainians also died.
They did not succeed in stopping the Bolshevik offensive, but, after dismantling the railway track, they detained it for several days.
“Today we are honoring one of the most significant feats of the Ukrainian army. This is a victory for the Ukrainian spirit and weapons. This is a blow to youth against the slavery of the people.
101 years ago a fight took place, which is a legend. Warriors, cadets and students went up to an unequal battle with the enemy for the sake of freedom, for the sake of their own home, for their people, for Ukraine.
Ukrainian history was deliberately distorted and replaced several times. Invaders always do this with conquered peoples. First of all, they discredit the idea of the liberation struggle.
Fighting at Kruty is a pain, it is a loss, but it is not a defeat.
This is a victory: as a historical fact, as a historical truth, as a national truth, ”third President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko wrote on his Facebook page today.
Also in connection with this historical event in the capital's cinema "Kiev" there will be a pre-premiere screening of the film "Kruty 1918", which will be released on February 7 this year.
