The EU will create a contact group for the situation in Venezuela

The task of the international contact group will be to develop a common understanding and coordinated approaches to resolve the situation in Venezuela in a peaceful and democratic way.

EU High Representative Federica Mogherini stated that a decision was made to create an international contact group on the situation in Venezuela

The group will operate for a limited time, which is defined in 90 days, reports "DS" with reference to the press service of the European Union.

"We have decided to establish an international contact group that has been agreed with all EU member states and with several Latin American countries that will take part in it," Mogherini said.

According to her, the task of the international contact group will be to develop a common understanding and coordinated approaches to resolve the situation in Venezuela in a peaceful and democratic way.

It was noted that the result of the group’s work should be the provision of the opportunity for the citizens of Venezuela to determine their own future by holding new elections, during which a free and fair process will be guaranteed.

It is reported that part of the group will be EU countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Part of the group from Latin America will be represented by Ecuador, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Bolivia. Another few countries to which the request was sent, the response is expected within one to two days.

Recall, on the eve of the MEPs recognized the opposition leader of Venezuela, Juan Guaydo, the legal interim president of the country.
